Kansas City Southern’s 2Q Profit Improves
Kansas City Southern said it earned $34.6 million, or 34 cents a share, in its second quarter, compared with $6.5 million, or 7 cents, the previous year.
The railroad’s revenue jumped 35% to $461.6 million from $341.3 million a year ago, it said Tuesday.
Volumes increased 24%. Year-over-year, carloads rose in every freight segment except coal.
Kansas City Southern officials attributed the volume gains to an increase in demand for transportation of autos, agricultural commodities and other goods, Reuters reported.
