GM Plans New Global Midsize Truck
General Motors Co. is readying a new midsize Chevrolet truck that will be built in Thailand and Brazil and exported to Europe and parts of Southeast Asia, Bloomberg News reported.
GM expects to sell at least 100,000 of the trucks in the first year, Bloomberg said. A GM spokesman declined to provide specifics on when production will begin, but said manufacturing in Thailand will launch once a separate truck assembly deal there with Isuzu comes to an end. GM plans to invest about $467 million in Thailand, Bloomberg said.
GM is joining Honda Motor Co. and Nissan Motor Co. in ramping up production in the country as global economic recovery jump starts domestic and overseas demand, Bloomberg said.
