Ford Chooses Battery Supplier for Electric Vehicles
Ford Motor Co. has selected Compact Power, Inc. as the supplier for the lithium-ion battery packs that will be used in electric-powered versions of the 2011 Ford Focus.
CPI will begin assembling the battery packs next year. The lithium-ion cells initially will be manufactured in Korea by CPI parent company LG Chem before moving to the companies’ new site in Holland, MI.
Production of the electric Focus will begin next year.
Ford plans to introduce five electric-powered vehicles in the U.S. by 2012, including a battery-powered version of the Transit Connect small van.
