Chevy Volt Pricing Starts at $41,000

General Motors Co. has set the starting price for its Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric car at $41,000, and is now accepting customer orders for the car.

During its limited initial production run, the Volt will be available through selected dealers in markets that include California, New York, Michigan, Connecticut, Texas, New Jersey and the Washington D.C. area.

GM expects customer deliveries to begin late this year.

Buyers of the Volt and other electric cars are eligible for a $7,500 federal tax credit, but GM is also offering a 36-month lease at $350 per month with $2,500 due at signing.

GM is offering that deal to customers who take the car at sticker price, allowing the carmaker to take advantage of the tax credit and reduce the lease payment, GM said.

The Volt has a range of up to 40 miles on a single electric charge, and can travel up to 300 more miles with propulsion from its gasoline-powered engine/generator, the automaker said.

The Volt carries a 3-year/ 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. The battery is warranted for 8 years or 100,000 miles.
